If you're reading this close to the day it was published, you've arrived at the very beginning.

There aren't hundreds of stories waiting to be discovered.

Not yet.

Today, this library is mostly an idea.

A vision.

A promise I've made to myself.

Every library begins with a single book.
Every collection begins with one story.

Today, I'm writing the first one.

I've spent a long time wondering what I wanted Global Affair to become.

Yes, we're here to help people book holidays, but I've always hoped we'd become something more than that.

I wanted to create a place people returned to whether they were travelling next week or simply dreaming about one day.

A place where curiosity is encouraged.
Where questions are welcomed.
Where nobody feels embarrassed to ask something they think they “should already know.”

Because I know exactly what that feels like.

I know what it's like to wonder whether travel is really for someone like me.

Will my anxiety make it too difficult?
Will travelling with children be too stressful?
Will accessibility needs limit my choices?
Will my hard-earned budget stretch far enough to do what I want?
Will I cope?

I've asked every one of those questions.

Some of them more than once.

Which is probably why I don't want this to become another website that's simply trying to sell you the latest offer or convince you where you should go next.

There are already plenty of places that do that brilliantly.

That's just not the conversation I want to have.

I'd much rather help you discover your own relationship with travel.

What makes your soul sing.

The places that leave you feeling rested, excited, inspired or quietly changed.

The kind of journeys that quietly become part of who you are.

Because your perfect trip won't look like mine.

Travel means something different to all of us.

For some people it's finally switching off.

For others it's standing on top of a mountain, wandering through a museum, finding the perfect coffee shop or watching their children experience something for the very first time.

None of those reasons are more important than another.

They're simply yours.

There isn't one right way to experience the world.
There isn't one right reason to travel.

There is only your story.
Your pace.
Your curiosity.
Your own Global Affair.

And that's really what I hope this place becomes.

Not simply a collection of stories.

A collection of shared curiosity.

Shared experiences.
Shared discoveries.
Shared stories.

Where one person's question becomes somebody else's answer.

Over time these shelves will begin to fill.

With places we've visited.
Places we've loved.
Hotels we've stayed in.
Bookshops I'll almost certainly wander into.
Coffee shops worth walking an extra mile for.
Travel apps that genuinely make life easier.
Cruises.
City breaks.
Family holidays.
The mistakes we've made.
The lessons we've learnt.
The moments that quietly changed us.

Some stories will simply make you smile.

Others might answer a question you've been carrying around for years.

And I'm almost certain there will be stories that haven't even crossed my mind yet, because they'll begin with a question from someone reading this.

I hope that's how this library grows.

Not because I've planned every page in advance—trust me, that's highly unusual. I plan everything!

But because every conversation has the potential to become another story worth sharing.

One of the things I love most about libraries is that nobody tells you which book to read first.

You simply follow your curiosity.

You wander.

You pick something up because the title catches your eye.

You stumble across ideas you weren't looking for.

Sometimes you leave with the story you came for.

Sometimes you leave with the one you didn't know you needed.

I'd love this place to feel like that.

Maybe you'll arrive looking for advice about Spain and leave inspired to take your children somewhere you'd never considered.

Maybe you'll be searching for a hotel review and end up reading a story that changes the way you think about travel.

Maybe you'll simply spend ten quiet minutes here with a coffee, dreaming about a journey that hasn't happened yet.

I'd be delighted with any of those.

This isn't a finished library.

It's the beginning of one.
